I have started and abandoned a lot of blogs. On Blogger, Xanga, the blogs feature of MySpace, several self-hosted tumblelogs, Tumblr, and several WordPress sites. Outside of those, I also had many journals, often buying a new one every time the last one stalled.

I started b10g.xyz in November 2022, not long after Twitter changed hands, on the theory that platforms you don’t own are bad places to leave your work. It’s kicked around with posts here and there ever since, but I rebooted it in August 2026 with a goal to post at minimum twice a week.

The site runs on Micro.blog and the design is a custom Hugo theme I made. It uses Inter as the primary font, with blockquotes using Google Sans Code. The binoculars icon was made by me and the blog wordmark uses ChiKareGo2, a faithful homage to Susan Kare’s Chicago font from the original Macintosh.

I do most of my writing in Drafts, on my phone or my Mac, whichever is nearer.

Comments on the site are populated from Micro.blog replies, Webmentions come in on their own, Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky. Micro.blog and Webmentions are handled by the Micro.blog platform. Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky replies are displayed using a custom web component forked from oom-components/mastodon-comments. Mastodon and Bluesky have public APIs your browser asks them directly. Threads doesn’t, so it calls a small Cloudflare Worker at api.b10g.xyz to get the info.

This site is not equipped with any kind of analytics, cookies or trackers.
